It may have been a soggy start to the week at Earls Hall but it was also a busy one!

The morning started with Mr B using the theme of the rain as a stimulus for the KS1 assembly. Mr B explained that when he was young his home used to suffer power cuts and the children realised that this would mean that they would have to entertain themselves without a tv, console or the internet. The children were challenged to think of things that they could do at home if it was too wet to go outdoors and there was no power. By the end of the assembly the children had decided that they could paint a picture, create some junk modelling, complete a jigsaw, read a book, write a story or build a den!

Later, in the KS2 assembly, the children were joined by Mr Foster and a group of representatives from Chase High who came to talk to them about being resilient when facing challenges. The pupils told the children personal accounts of when they were involved in challenging situations and how they gained strength by facing them. The children were also inspired as the pupils sang and performed musical instruments for them. Thank you Mr Foster and pupils for giving us your time.

Just before the lunch Mrs Heard met with the new members of the School Council. At the meeting the members discussed their expectations for the year ahead and clarified what their role on the council involves before thinking of agenda items for the next session.

As the day progressed, the children in Year One were building landmarks which they saw when they went out on their local walk whilst in foxes the children investigated ways to soak up water. In Badgers the children used their PE lesson to create shapes using the apparatus whilst the children in Kites developed their ability to write sentences which included semi colons. In Beech the children investigated reversible and irreversible changes whilst the children in Owls designed their own wrapping paper which they will create using printing techniques.
