It was a day to remember for the children in Year Three today as they explored evolution from the original hunter gatherers, how they lived and hunted to how they made their own stone tools. The day started with Stone Age Gary introducing himself as the leader from ‘Portals from the Past’. The children role played hunting a Woolly Mammoth and reindeer with spears. They studied a timeline which showed evolution from early, middle and late Stone Age, through to Bronze, Iron Age (Celts) before investigating a Stone Age building and taking part in a competition to build their own in groups. They saw a demo showing how they moved the huge stones where the children pulled the rope with the man on a plank of wood with circular wood underneath plank and the second child replaced the wood as he moved. The children and staff looked amazing in their costumes; thanks to all of our lovely parents for helping make the day so special by dressing the children in role. The day was funded by our PTA who generously pay for curriculum enrichment days throughout the year.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in school, the children in Foxes enjoyed a library session where they thoroughly enjoyed browsing through the titles before settling down and reading for pleasure.

At the end of the afternoon Mrs Cockett and Miss Ellacott were joined in the downstairs hall by a host of parents from Year Four who were all eager to find out more about the up and coming overnight trip to Wat Tyler Park.
