The children like nothing better than welcoming visitors into school so they were delighted this morning when our day started with a visit from Katie Stanton in assembly. Katie, from Earls Hall Baptist Church, told the children a story about Gideon who said “I can’t” before he’d even tried to attempt a challenge. With the help of God Gideon found he was able to rise to the challenge so Katie asked the children if they had ever been in a situation similar to him. Katie encouraged the children to try first so at least they know.

Later in the day the children experienced a change of lunch menu following a slight problem with the oven. Mr B was joined by a group of well behaved children once again before Miss Ellacott also came across to share her lunchtime with more pupils.

Throughout the day, Year One spent the day painting and created their own Savannah landscapes. First they talked about an African Savannah picture and discussed what they could see and the different colours that had been used. They discussed how they felt about the picture and their reasons why. Then they created their own colour wheels by mixing primary colours. Then they moved onto mixing different shades of green and yellow for the Savannah grasslands and practised using thin and thick brushes to create the grass before moving onto painting African animals. They focused on the shapes of the animals and explored when it is best to use different sized paintbrushes. Tomorrow they will be mixing colours again and painting their African animals. 

In the afternoon Mr B was joined by a group of parents for our most recent ‘Family Council’ meeting. The meeting gave Mr B the opportunity to tell the parents all about the outcomes from the recent travel plan survey and answered questions from the council. Thanks to everyone who made it along.

After school the downstairs hall was used for another session of Karate lessons with Mr England where our top instructor put the children through their paces!
