The day was full of entertainment and fun, both in school and on the sporting front.
The morning saw groups of children take to the stage in the upstairs hall as they performed as part of the ‘Rock Steady’ workshop. Each band took to the stage and performed some classic and modern tracks on a range of instruments to an impressive level. Phil from Rock Steady introduced each act and the children performed with confidence, much to the delight of their proud parents. It was wonderful to see how far they had progressed in such a short space of time. Well done to all of the performers, we are really proud of you.
Meanwhile, there was plenty of excitement away from school as a team of our KS2 children took part in the Year Three & Four Essex tennis finals. The team played against Notley and won 4-3 then they won 8-0 both to Theidon Bois and Grovewood before drawing against Denholm. They finally played against Brentwood where, although showing great determination and team spirit, they lost 3-0. The teams brilliant overall performance meant that they ended the competition ranked second place in the whole of Essex! Well done to all the players, we are incredibly proud of you all!
Tennis was also taking place on the playground this afternoon; just one of a range of sports taking place today. The children from Year Five developed their racket skills whilst the children in Year Three were coached by children from Year Six as part of our annual cricket festival. Mr Johnson, our top coach, oversaw the afternoon which saw all of the year group take turns to bat and field in games of kwik cricket. Meanwhile, in the upstairs hall, more children from across KS2 took part in carpet bowls sessions with our guests from Prittlewell Bowls Club whilst on the playground children from Year Two continued to develop their cycling with the ‘Bikeability’ team.
The whole school was literally buzzing with excitement centred around preparation for the Economic Well Being Fayre which is due to take place on Thursday. Children created posters and prepared their stalls. There was stiff competition between the classes as they visited each other to try and persuade each other to visit their respective stalls on the day. Our younger children sang jingles they had composed to anyone who would listen, taking turns to perform for the older children, whilst the older children created whole class dances and chants which they performed with enthusiasm. Signs were painted and persuasive letters of support appeared across the school in a bid to entice other children to pop along to their stalls. It looks set to be one of the most exciting days of the year with everyone aiming to make the most profit!
At the end of the afternoon the children in KS1 were treated to a special assembly when they were joined by Mrs Khan who came to talk to them about Eid. Mrs Khan shared photos of the celebrations that had taken place in her home over the weekend and the children were amazed by the beautiful mendhi designs she had created on her hands.
