It was a busy day for the children in Squirrels today as they took pencil to paper in order to write about things which interested them! The children worked with talk partners to discuss a range of interests and then chose pictures to accompany their wiring using the interactive whiteboard. They then turned their spoken sentences into written ones which included capital letters, full stops and some challenging word choices. By the end of the session there were some brilliant sentences which the children enjoyed sharing with each other.

Meanwhile, as the children in Year Two began an enquiry learning block about castles, there was more Squirrels fun as a group of children helped Miss Kelly to look after the animals. Geraldine had been out of sorts at the beginning of the week and had been visited by the vets so the children checked on her to make sure that she was back to her usual self. They also fed and played with George the tortoise, learning all about how to care for him.

Outside, at the front of the school, the children in Kites used their Forest Friends session to investigate snails, spiders and other minibeasts. They found areas of the woods and grass which were the perfect habitat for the little creatures and then carefully looked at the snails up close.

In the afternoon, as the children in Kestrels developed their ability to invade space as an introduction to tag rugby, children from across the school read to a host of volunteers from Southend High School for Boys Sixth Form. The students helped the children to use strategies to read and gave each child in turn some positive feedback.
