Today was another busy one with lots of activity both inside and outside!

The day started with the KS1 assembly where Mr B talked to the children about precious items they may treasure. He shared his childhood toy, Tara the dog, who he had been given by his grandmother as a new born baby. He talked of how the raggedy dog had been his playmate as a child and had also been a favourite toy of many classes he taught as an adult. He described how each time he looked at her ity brought back precious memories of both his Nanny and the children he had taken care of. The children then thought of items they had which were precious to them and shard them along with the reasons why. They then discussed with Mr B how items need to be taken care of but that, however precious, the friends and family children have are even more so. The children then thought about ways to show the people that they love how precious they are to them and the whole hall ended the assembly enjoying some group hugs!

Outside in the ‘Forest Friends’ area the children in Year Two enjoyed outdoor learning linked to their work on the great fire of London. They made 3D and 2D representations of houses using natural objects that they hunted for in the woods and at the end of the session Mrs Mellish demonstrated the effects of the fire on the city in a controlled reconstruction!

The afternoon saw the upstairs hall full to the brim with parents of Year Three children as they performed a fantastic assembly. The children had already performed the assembly to KS2 in the morning but thrilled the adults with their second performance which focused on their transition into KS2, some of the new ways they learn and their recent enjoyable trip to Belfairs Wood. There was singing and even a rendition of some of the songs that they have been learning each week on their recorders. Thanks to all of the parents who made it along.

Also taking place today was the KS1 ‘Multisports’ day which saw a group of children from school travel to Garons to take part alongside a host of other local schools. The event was not a competitive tournament but saw the team take part in a circuit of activities. Each activity was demonstrated by a local Southend secondary pupil and included ball dribbling, bowling, tag rugby, balancing and throwing bean bags, curling and giant parachute games. Miss Toms accompanied the children who all worked brilliantly as a team!
