It was a completely jam packed day in school today!
The morning started with the children in KS1 being joined by Katie and Tom from Earls Hall Baptist church in assembly. The visitors told the story of the fallen seed with the children all pretending to be various soils by acting them out with their bodies which they thoroughly enjoyed. In the KS2 assembly Miss Ellacott talked to the children about how harvest is celebrated in various ways in preparation for the special assembly taking place tomorrow.
Later in the morning the children across KS1 took part in their weekly french lessons with Madame Bass whilst outside in our ‘Forest Friends’ area we were visited by children from Earls Hall Pre-School who collected natural objects to create Autumn collages back at the church.
Our AOK club continued to develop with three children joining Mrs Robinson and trainee teacher Mr Pip on a special mission off site! The team visited kennels run by the Retired Greyhound Trust. Most greyhounds retire when they are three or four years old but the RGT help them to find a ‘forever home’ and look after them until this home can be found. The children heard that the greayhounds make ideal pets because they need little exercise and are usually calm by nature. The children donated biscuits and a cosy blanket for the dogs and then took turns to give some greyhounds their morning exercise with a walk around the field. They then gave them some treats. A dog called Fantasy was a particular favourite. The team at the kennels presented the children with their AOK badges in recognition of their kindness.
As the day progressed the downstairs hall was used for PE by both Foundation Stage and Year One. Dormice were taught how to throw and catch using beanbags whilst Rabbits used their bodies to move in a sequence of imaginative ways to music. Meanwhile upstairs, in Beech class, the children were investigating scale by translating pictures to different sizes on squared paper.
There was much excitement over in the kitchen today! Not only were Mrs Hardy and her team serving up the popular roast beef dinner but they were also thrilled to be awarded a top rating of five by the food hygiene agency!
There was also a thrilling display of endurance taking place off site as a team of KS2 runners took part in the cross country inter-schools competition at Thorpe Hall. Each year group from three to five had four boy and girl runners representing the school with each child each running a km at a time. The race was run over a difficult windy course that took them through the forest. We started with our Year Three girls who ran very well, taking over on the last lap to go on and win comfortably. Our Year Three boys won in a completely different way blasting out from the front and not letting another runner get near them! Our Years Four and Five boys and girls all ran amazingly well with all of our representatives encouraging each other throughout. Congratulations to all of our runners. Our Years Four and Five teams came a magnificent third place whilst both our boys and girls in Year Three were placed a triumphant first!
