Horsing Around!

It was an exciting day for a group of children in KS2 today as they took part in the very first horse riding club after school. Accompanied by Mrs Collins, Mrs Gorbutt and Mr B, the children ventured over to Ramblers Riding Club in Eastwood where they each got to experience time in the saddle! After being initiated into the safety rules around riding, the children were each introduced to their horses and taught how to get onto the saddle safely. They were then supported to ride around a circuit, changing direction and the reigns. It was a wonderful first session and the children all loved every minute of the experience!

Earlier in the day there had been riding of a different kind taking place back at school as the children from Aspen enjoyed a Bikeability session. The children all took their bikes onto the playground and all made cycling progress dependent on their starting point. It was smashing to see their confidence grow as the session took place.

Down in the Foundation Stage many of the children continued to show an interest in caterpillars and how they change into butterflies. Some of the children wrote some wonderful sentences about various different types of caterpillars whilst others made repeating patterns into caterpillars using pegs and boards. In the creative area the children made their own symmetrical butterflies by printing paint on paper whilst others went on hunt for caterpillars and other creatures out in the garden. There was even a chance to cat out the various stages a caterpillar goes through before changing into a butterfly in a short drama session.
