It was another busy day at Earls Hall and one where the children in Hawks used biscuits as a building tool! The children are learning about the significance of Stone Henge as a Stone Age landmark and so today they worked in groups in order to build models to display in their museums later this half term. they arranged biscuits in a circular shape and placed them in their positions with icing. It was a fun session that saw them not only recreate the magnificent landmark but also develop their ability to be a team player, one of our key Earls Hall qualities.
Meanwhile, down in the Foundation Stage, some of the children continued to act out being pirates on their very own ship seeking treasure whilst others continued to show an interest in dinosaurs. As a result, some of the children created dinosaur heads out of cardboard boxes. They painted the boxes before cutting out sharp teeth and sticking them on. Once completed they used the heads to act out scenarios where some of the children built a cave using drapes placed carefully over a worktop which they hid in as the dinosaurs hunted them!
Whilst the children in Kites learnt how to input data on a database in the computer suite, there was a continued animal theme in Hedgehogs as the children were assisted by Emily from Year Two who helped them understand how to care for their animatronic cat! Emily is very keen on cats and has looked after the toy for a few days and written a book about everything it can do. Today she took the cat down to the younger children, read her book to them and helped them each have a turn in looking after it as it purred and meowed in response to the care that they gave it. Thank you Emily!
Upstairs, in the hall, the children in Oak used their PE session to practise their balancing skills, copying each others positions on the mats in pairs, whilst Kestrels acted out being hunter gatherers as part of their Stone Age work and Elm created their own sculptures to display on their chosen plinths. At the end of the day some children from Owls visited the Cabin where they cared for the guinea pigs.
