It was an exciting day for the children in Year Five today as they launched themselves wholeheartedly into another enquiry based series of lessons! The children have been learning about the context of the Windrush generation and today composed a number of questions which they then worked in pairs toi find out the answers to. The children used a range of non-fiction texts as well as sources from the internet to gain a deeper perspective of the lives of those living at the time of such an historical event. They jotted down notes which they will use to compile answers to their questions, choosing independently the most powerful way to relay their findings to their classmates in future lessons.
Meanwhile, as the children in Elm took to the upstairs hall in order to take part in a gymnastics lesson, the children in Foundation Stage developed their writing skills. Some of the children had shown an interest in dinosaurs and, by studying a range of pictures of the creatures, wrote independent sentences about them with some stunning attempts on show.
Outside, the children from Oak used their Forest Friends session to take part in some key gardening activities, moving wood chip to replace the floor in our woodland area and cutting up old Christmas trees. Also in Forest Friends, the children in Hawks were making bird food, looking at nests, discussing what materials are used by birds and why whilst having a go using loppers and secateurs.
As the children in Foundation investigated blocks of ice in the builders trays, the children in Willow were in the computer suite creating using excel to create their own formulas and the children in Year Two worked with the lovely Mrs Thompson, complete with her guitar, in music lessons.
