Mr B had a lovely afternoon today as he spent time outside teaching the children in Kites their Forest Friends session. The children have been taking part in the RSPB big birdwatch again this year and so the session built on prior knowledge with activities all based around our feathered friends. The children worked in pairs to spot and identify different birds around the woods with a surprising amount of varieties making an appearance, including a particularly friend Robin. They were also challenged to work together to build nests which would be big enough for them to sit in. The children created their nests by collecting branches, twigs and the remains of donated Christmas trees from  around the wood and worked together to negotiate how best to arrange them to meet the brief. There was also the opportunity to use twigs, branches, leaves and other natural objects from outside to create their own bird pictures on the tarpaulin. It was a smashing afternoon which left a smile on Mr B’s face.

Today we also held two OPAL assemblies where the children were reminded of various playground games which they could play together. Alongside some new games which the children may not have encountered before, there were also reminders of how to play old favourites which saw the whole of KS2 play ‘Simon Says’ together.

In the afternoon, the ‘Green Team’ held another meeting where they discussed their next project. The children voted to create a series of bug hotels around the school and composed a letter for parents asking for donations of the items which they will need to make them.
