There was an air of excitement at Earls Hall today as the whole school came out in force to celebrate World Book Day! Across all corners of the school, children and staff dressed as well known characters from books. There were dozens of Where’s Wally’s, princesses of every kind, Hogwarts favourites and many, many more fantastic characters to be seen. Thank you to all of our parents for making such a sterling effort as usual.
As part of the celebrations, the whole school shared the story of ‘We’re all Wonders’ by RJ Palacio; we met the character of Auggie Pullman and the challenges he faced as he did not look the same as ‘ordinary people’. The story focuses on our Earls Hall quality of being Unique and there is also a strong theme of friendship and kindness. The children from EYFS to year 6 have listened to the story, taken part in discussions about character, created art work self-portraits based upon themselves and written precepts/mottos amongst many other activities across the day.
There was also the opportunity for the children to guess the identities of our three ‘Masked Readers’ with the names of the mysterious members of staff set to be revealed in assembly tomorrow. It was a wonderful day which reminded everyone of the the many reasons why books are so brilliant!
