Magic Modroc!

It was a busy and artistic day for the children in Kites today as they took time to get their creative juices flowing using marvellous modroc!

Inspired by the characters of Roald Dahl, the children had previously used their sketch books to reproduce impressions in the style of illustrator Quentin Blake. Today they used their sketches to design their own 3D models of a chosen character, starting the basic shape of them using rolled, twisted and folded newspaper and holding together its form using tape. Once secure, the children then covered the shape with modroc, wetting and smoothing it with their fingers layer after layer in order to make it solid.

By the end of the session the classroom was full of recognisable shapes of characters which, once completely dry, they will be able to enhance with paint.

Meanwhile, in the Early Year Garden, some of the children from Hedgehogs had fun in the new windmill shed by relaxing with a range of books to enjoy. The children found the inside of the windmill the perfect setting to cosy up and share the books, swapping the ones which they liked best for their friends to also enjoy.
