Woodland Wizardry!

It was a  creative day today for the children in Year Six as they spent a day immersed in the wizarding world of Harry Potter!  In English they planned character descriptions of Hagrid and the rest of the day has had a DT theme centred around designing and building a new hut for Hagrid. Taking themselves to the Forest Friends woodland area, the children spent time in the trees building shelters and, back in class, designed and planned a new hut for Hagrid. Then, using art straws and pipe cleaners, the children made prototypes which they will use as the basis of their finished product. It was a great day which the children all enjoyed.

Meanwhile, the children in Hedgehogs were learning about dinosaurs as some children had shown an interest in them. They answered a dinosaur quiz, sung a dinosaur song and danced. The children were painting boxes to make dinosaur feet, learnt to draw their own dinosaur and act as a dinosaur. They have learnt about dinosaurs being meat eaters and plant eaters along with a class discussion.  Following the children’s interest in snakes, Mrs Duprey  brought in a snake skin. She kept it from when her snake shed it’s skin. The children could see the shape of the snake’s scales and were very gentle when handling the skin. They noticed that the skin was thin and crunchy.

It was a special day for Mrs Cook as our much loved teaching assistant celebrated her fiftieth birthday! In the Cabin  in the morning the children spoilt her before she was presented with flowers from her friends over in the staffroom at lunchtime. Happy birthday Mrs Cook!

After school, despite the miserable weather, the lovely Miss Patching hosted the first of the terms netball club out on the court. The children all gave their best at the club and even though it was a damp end to the day it was a fabulous one!
