It was an active day for the children in Aspen today as they enjoyed a Forest Friends session which focused on hard graft in the outdoors! the children used loppers and secateurs to trim back some of the heavy bushes out of the front of the school, first having a go at using the tools on old Christmas trees donated to the school. They also cleared much of the woodland of leaves and fallen twigs using rakes before planting some of the trees from the sapling nursery around the woods. It was a busy session and the children loved it!

Meanwhile, down in the Foundation Stage, some of the children enjoyed investigating the distance trucks and lorries would zoom down a slope which they constructed whilst others used the large construction blocks to create vehicles of their own. Groups of children investigated the water tray and the mud kitchen outside whilst, in the classrooms, some children in Dormice set up their own hairdressing salon and took turns to act out the roles of the workers and the customers with pretend scissors. In Hedgehogs, some children enjoyed drawing around the outlines of their bodies in order to create their own large scale characters whilst others used the outlines to compare heights of individual children, guessing how many multilink blocks it would take to measure them.

As the children in in Willow used excel in the computer suite to write their own formulas, the children in the Cabin collected data from around the school by asking members of the team to choose their favourite fruits and vegetables. They later used the information to create their own pictograms. In Elm the children created their own graphic notations in music to compose using body parts whilst, still on the musical theme, the children in Owls were learning about how notes are written on a stave.
