There was excitement both in and out of school today. Children from Years Two, Three and Four were joined by representatives of Southend Diving Club. The team worked with classes to identify potential diving talent by putting the children through their paces in the hall.

Meanwhile, the children in Rabbits took to the minibus and made their way in groups to Southend Planetarium. They learnt about the eight major planets in the solar system and their guide, Wendy, explained their characteristics. Then they looked at the constellations and she told the story behind their names. Wendy showed the children how to find the North Star and why it is so important for navigation. She talked about shooting stars and astronauts that the children had been learning about. Then children had the opportunity to ask questions and came back to school buzzing with new facts!

Later on in the day the children in Robins enjoyed a fun library session whilst the children in Beech investigated how to identify potential dangers and the physical signs that occur in humans when they sense danger. Foxes discussed what ingredients are essential to make positive friendships and worked together to show their discussion in words and pictures.

In the afternoon the children in Woodpeckers used their ‘Life Skills’ session to begin to make their own wooden rockets. They worked with Mrs Hewitt to cut wooden sticks and boltser wood to size. Upstairs the children in 6J worked to hgether to create storyboard plans for their WW2 animations.
