Wonderful WWII Day!

It was a wonderful day full of wartime spirit for the children in Year six today as they spent the day taking part in a WWII enrichment day!

The children all came to school dressed to impress as evacuees and played a variety of games that were popular in the 1940’s, such a hopscotch and skipping, in order to put themselves in the shoes of children who lived at the time. They also played ‘Air Raid Alert’ based on their class text.

Throughout the day the children made and tasted Woolton Pie; a wartime recipe made from vegetables and breadcrumbs, and then later on evaluated their dishes once they were cooked. they tasted the pie and compared it to a modern vegetable slice before also tasting and comparing syrup loaves- one shop bought and one homemade WWII recipe. It was a fantastic day which all the children enjoyed.

Meanwhile, the children in Foxes took part in a series of team challenges as part of their PE lesson in the hall and the children in Year four continued to investigate their teeth using mirrors!

In the evening the PTA hosted a ‘Tele Addicts’ Quiz where teams of up to eight pitted their wits against each other, testing their knowledge of tv trivia. It was a fun night which raised £227. Thank you to everyone who came along and well done to the winning team; The Old Thumpers!
