It may have been raining outside today but inside school was a hive of activity as usual! The children in 6M spent the afternoon developing their DT skills as they continued to create wooden shelters. Having designed their structures on paper and then creating a prototype out of art straws, the children used the handsaw to cut pieces of wood to the correct lengths before sanding each piece and securely sticking them together using a glue gun. The levels of concentration were amazing and the shelters look set to be fantastic when they are finished.

Meanwhile, the children in Aspen used the upstairs hall to choreograph their own group routines in a dance lesson whilst, down the corridor, the children in Kestrels created their own story maps of ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’. In Year Five the children put the finishing touches to their withes frames by inserting the electrical circuit, complete with bulbs, into the decorated frame.

We always say that, when it comes to ‘Forest Friends’, there is no such thing as bad weather just bad clothing choices and this motto was put to the test by the children in Woodpeckers today as they took part in their activities in the rain. A great time was had by all but the parachute canopy certainly came in handy at times!  Inside, the children in Foundation Stage played number and phonic games but also investigated dinosaur stories whilst the children in Squirrels enjoyed looking after Mabel, the school dog.
