It was a wonderful day at Earls Hall, and one which was full of woodland wonders for many of the children! The children in Year Three spent the day away from school as they enjoyed a trip out to Belfairs Woods. At the woods the children took part in a series of activities including a woodland trail, observational drawing and the creation of outdoor art in the style of Andy Goldsworthy using natural materials found in the woods. They were challenged to find a new home for Fantastic Mr Fox and his family and followed a map to locate sculptures. There was also time for lunch in the open air and fun in the play park before coming home. It was a great and memorable day!

Meanwhile, back in school, the children from the Cabin spent the morning taking part in a Forest Friends session. Working around a dinosaur theme, the children made dinosaur skeletons out of sticks and then used their measuring skills to see which one was the longest and shortest. They then scavenged in the woods for objects to collect natural objects with which they made habitats for toy dinosaurs.

In the afternoon, there was more Forest Friends fun for the children in Beech. The children collected leaves and other natural objects and used them to create designs for outfits with some stunning results! They then developed their team work skills by taking part in a series of group challenges on the grass, including safely moving objects along guttering without dropping them, which used all of their negotiation and communication skills beautifully!

In the afternoon, our latest ‘Learning Ambassadors’ gathered downstairs in order to meet with Mr Spence, one of our governors. At the meeting the children told Mr Spence all about the learning which has been taking place in their various classes this week and some also explained to him how and why they felt that the school is inclusive and why this is important to them . Well done children, we are proud of you!
