It was an exiting day for the children in Year Five today as they started their week by taking part in an enrichment day hosted by our friends at King Edmunds School. The children from Willow, Sycamore and Beech visited KES where they took part in a practical Science session in a lab investigating how temperature affected how quickly jelly cubes dissolved and also learnt how to play tennis rounders in an outdoor PE lesson.  Some of the children also took part in an engineering session where they made their own wooden pencil holder, whilst others had the opportunity to take part in a drama workshop. It was another opportunity for the children to dip their toes into the world of secondary school and the most enjoyable of days. Thanks to all of our friends at KES for hosting such a fun event for the children.

Meanwhile, back in school, the children in Foundation Stage used their Forest Friends sessions to create their own team challenges! The children worked in groups to create courses for either themselves or items to travel along. Some made balancing courses whilst others challenged themselves to successfully pass balls and other objects from a starting point to the finish without allowing the ball to fall off. Team work was essential, as was collaboration and communication, and a great time was had by all. There was more action in the woods after school as Miss Chandler and Mrs Nicholls hosted another Forest Friends Activity Club. The children had the opportunity to create their own giant bubbles on the green with some amazing results!

In the afternoon, as Mr B led the whole of Year Four in a singing session on the field, the downstairs hall played host to the first of our transition meetings for lots of parents from Year Four. At the meeting Mrs Crouch gave a presentation about what the children can expect next year before the parents had the opportunity to introduce themselves to the teachers who will be caring for their children in September over a cup of tea. It was the first of seven meetings taking place over the next couple of weeks, one for each year group. Thanks to everyone who made it along.

The day also saw us visited by none other than Earls Hall legend Mrs Russell! Now enjoying a well earned retirement after her thirty years of service, Mrs Russell swung by to say a brief hello and looked the picture of health as she caught up with some of her old colleagues. It was lovely to see her. Once an Earls Hallian, always an Earls Hallian!
