Today was a busy day at Earls Hall which saw some children venture off site whilst we also welcomed visitors in!

Our KS2 assembly this morning saw us welcome Tom and Katie from earls Hall Baptist Church into school. Tom and Katie conducted an experiment using lego to build towers. they then tried to balance the towers on a balloon with the result being the tower crashing down and falling into pieces! Tom explained to the children that the experiment was a reminder of a Bible story which teaches us to build on solid foundations. He related the story to the children building solid foundations in their learning at school. The assembly also saw Katie tell the children all about the ‘Allsorts’ Summer club being held at the church, details of which will be in this weeks newsletter.

Later in the morning there was quite a lot of noise coming from Squirrels class as they experimented with a range of percussion instruments. Miss Holmes challenged the children to identify the names of the various instruments and experiment with them to see what different sounds they could make with them. They then used the instruments to accompany a host of poems and songs before ending the session with some singing circle games.

Year 4 had a great morning out as they  continued to learn about ‘God in our Community’ by visiting the Synagogue. They learnt about Jewish worship and looked at religious items used during their service. They saw where the Torah scrolls were kept and how Jewish people show their respect to them. The were amazed to find out that the scroll measures 200 meters, contains 304,000 Hebrew letters and takes a Rabbi 18 months to write with a quill. Thank you to all the parents that helped escort our children the 3,486 steps to walk there and back.

In the afternoon the downstairs hall was full of new parents as the school held its annual induction meeting for parents of children starting in the Foundation Stage this September. Mr B introduced the parents to the childrens teachers and various other adults who they would be coming into contact with throughout their first year at school. Mr Stanton, our chair of the governing body, explained all about the role of the governors whilst Miss Bennett talked to the audience about inclusion, particularly special educational needs. It was an afternoon full of information which hopefully helped make our new families feel part of the Earls Hall community!
