It was an exciting day for the children in Year Three today as they travelled back in time courtesy of the team from ‘Prehistoric Experiences’! Overnight, a magnificent canvas cave had been erected on the field which the children visited one class at a time. Once inside the ventilated cave, the children met Scuff and Twig who introduced them to life at the time.  The children found out about the Paleolithic era through to the Neolithic era as our stone age visitors talked them through the painted picture timeline on the cave walls.  Dressed in their amazing Stone Age costumes the children explored tools used at the time and activities such as cloth making, flint knapping, hunting and cooking. Our visitors were full of praise for our children and how engaged and well behaved they all were. Throughout the day, back in the classroom, the children also created their own drawings based on actual Stone Age Cave Art by making their own caves underneath their tables whilst also learning their own facts about the Stone age through team games. Thank you, once again, to our fantastic PTA for paying for the enrichment day and to all of our parents for sending the children into school dressed in the spirit of the day!

Meanwhile, as the children in Oak were investigating electrical circuits using bulbs, buzzers and motors, and demonstrating how electricity flows around a circuit, it was also a busy day for the children in Year Six as they took part in a fun Forest Friends session linked to their topic of Harry Potter. Out in the woods, the children worked in teams to create their own houses for Hagrid. They collected suitably strong branches and twigs before using them to construct shelters which would be large enough for them all to fit in. Back in the classroom, the children used what they had learnt outside in order to create prototypes of designs for more structured houses. They used art straws and worked in teams with some stunning results!
