Stunning Stone Age!

It was a sensational day for the children in Year Three today as they travelled back in time in order to investigate the Stone Age with the help of the team from ‘Prehistoric Experiences’! Overnight, a magnificent canvas cave had been erected on the field which the children visited one class at a time. Once inside the ventilated cave, the children met Memma and Twig who introduced them to life at the time.  The children found out about the Paleolithic era through to the Neolithic era as our stone age visitors talked them through the painted picture timeline on the cave walls.  Dressed in their amazing Stone Age costumes the children explored tools used at the time and activities such as cloth making, flint knapping, hunting and cooking.  Fresh from their prehistoric experience, the children tried their own hands at cave drawing and weaving.  Using candles under the tables they recreated the feel of a dark cave.  Inspired by information gained from our new Stone Age friends, the children went on to further research Stone Age facts on the internet and also apply what they had learned in an interactive game. It was a truly amazing day. Thanks to the PTA for funding yet another curriculum enrichment experience and well done to the parents for sending the children into school dressed so beautifully!

Meanwhile, as children from Years Two to Six enjoyed individual drumming lessons in the music room and Mr Gordon worked with small groups using sport as a way to increase confidence, the children in Year One were joined by Mrs Cann, Mr Canns lovely wife, who talked to them about working as a nurse today compared to in the times of Florence Nightingale and answered questions about how her day to day role looks. The children found out how hospitals today have been influenced by the changes that Florence introduced in the past.

After school the building was full of club activities. Mr B enjoyed leading construction club with children from the Foundation Stage whilst Miss Patching hosted her first netball club outside. As Karate took place in the downstairs hall, the ‘Strawberry Kitchen’ cooking club was enjoyed by children over in the Woodland Diner.
