It may have been a day early but the spirit of national pride was evident across the school for all to see today as the children and staff celebrated St George’s Day!

Each and every class was awash with red and white as the children took part in a non-uniform day as part of the celebrations. There were also an array of dragons, princesses, Saint George himself and even a pearly queen as once again our families supported the day.

The day started with the outside of the school being adorned with flags, bunting and balloons as the sound of ‘Land of Hope & Glory’ bellowed out of the stereo.

Our weekly ‘Celebration Assemblies’ which take place in both the upstairs and downstairs hall simultaneously focused on teaching and reminding the children lots of reasons to be proud to live in England. Mr B and Mrs Cockett showed the children famous English landmarks, famous monarchs and world renowned English inventions. The assembly also saw us present our latest prefects with their badges in recognition of their achievement.

As the day progressed many children retold the story of St George by writing their own versions of it or focused on English themed activities.

We were also joined for the day by one of our governors, Mrs Eshmade. Mrs Eshmade met with children from Year Two to hear all about the recent food fayre and children from Year six who told her all about preparing for their up and coming end of KS2 assessments. She heard a number of children read and met with Miss Pezzuolo to hear about the progress in phonics across Year One.

Our annual celebration was once again a great day of fun. Thank you to all of our families for helping to make the day so special.
