SEWING & SOWING!

It was another busy start to the week today. The morning started with the children from the Foundation Stage and KS1 taking part in an assembly where Mr B led them through a series of playtime choices. Three volunteers from the audience helped him choose whether a scenario given was a positive choice, a negative choice or somewhere in between by standing in either a green, red or yellow hoop. The children decided together that it was a negative choice to overcrowd any play equipment, a positive choice to refrain from picking the blossom off the tree before it had fallen and a positive choice to ask someone to play with them if they saw someone sitting on the ‘Friendship Bench’.

With the sun once again shining the Foundation Stage children enjoyed a fun ‘Forest Friends’ session sowing sunflower seeds outside. Miss Chandler taught the children how to plant the seeds in individual plant pots which they then watered before putting in the greenhouse. Once the plants have grown tall enough the children will transfer them into the beds across the front of the school and observe their growth.

There was sewing of a different kind in 6B in the afternoon. Following their completion of their reading paper in the morning, the children spent a calm afternoon continuing to stitch their amazing Tudor cushions. The classroom was lovely and calm with all of the children engrossed in their stitching.

Downstairs in Foxes the children set to work on a new challenge set by Adam Barrett following his recent visit to school. The children were challenged to create settings of global landscapes, the size of a shoe box. They had to design their setting and plan how to create it before setting to work in groups.  Meanwhile the children in Aspen worked as individuals and in pairs to classify varieties of mammals in a series of charts and tables.
