It was a day of changeable weather but that didn’t stop lots of our children enjoying the great outdoors! Throughout the day the children in Kestrels dodged the rain in order to investigate how shadows change in size and position. The children positioned a pencil upwards and drew the shadow it cast on paper as it changed depending on the position of the sun. Later, more Kestrels spent time outside as they took their turn to work with the goats, ducks and chickens.

Meanwhile, as the children in Elm enjoyed their swimming lesson with Mr Knight over in the pool, the children in Owls used their knowledge of coordinates to play games of ‘Battleships’ against each other. The children kept the positions of their ships secret by using books as barriers and really enjoyed the game. Next door, the children in Badgers used a story map of ‘Pirate Pete and his Parrot’. They innovated the story by changing a key element, such as characters or setting, in order to create their own brand new story.

Upstairs in the hall the children in Elm developed their archery skills whilst , downstairs, the children in Rabbits created their own pirate characters. They adorned photographs of themselves with pirate accessories in order to make themselves look nautical!

Outside, the children in Oak enjoyed a Forest Friends session where they investigated plant, insect and tree life in the woods before playing a series of team challenge games.
