The children always love to welcome special visitors into assembly so they were thrilled to see Stuart from the Fire Service this morning. Stuart led both our KS1 and KS2 assemblies, highlighting the importance of the children following the ‘Firework Code’ over the course of the Bonfire Night celebrations this weekend. Stuart talked to the children about how to handle sparklers safely, how to only ever let adults light fireworks after reading the instructions carefully and ensuring they were bought by a reputable seller and how to ensure pets are kept indoors over the weekend to stop them from being scared.

Later in the morning the theme of the assembly continued as the children from our Foundation Stage classes went outside and acted out their very own firework display using brightly coloured rags and moving their bodies to a firework soundtrack. They watched a film about firework safety and again discussed the ‘Firework Code’.

In the afternoon the children in Kites began investigating breads of all varieties by tasting them and identifying the various flavours to highlight their preferences. Meanwhile, down the corridor, the children in 6B continued to build their wooden constructions.  They used tools to cut and the glue gun to seal their structure.

In the afternoon there was a special assembly specifically held for the children in the Foundation Stage. The children who had read at least twenty five times at home were presented with their bronze ‘Reading Champions’ badges and congratulated by the audience as they proudly showed them off.

After school there was lots of activity in the downstairs hall as children from all age groups enjoyed another karate session with Mr England whilst in the IT suite Mrs Hadley held the first session of his ‘Media Club’. The children investigated film trailers and then were introduced to software programmes which would help them make their own over the next few weeks.
