PARTY TIME!

The school was in the mood to celebrate today in more ways than one!

The morning started with the first of two special KS1 assemblies. Mr B presented our final ‘Reading Champions’ with their badges and medals to reward their effort for reading at home throughout the year. After that he congratulated all of the children whose attendance had been over 95% for the whole of the academic year. The children were displayed on a powerpoint display and then certificates were handed out. The children who had been at school for 100% of the time were awarded a special gold certificate and will get to choose a prize from Mr B’s special prize box tomorrow. He thanked all of the parents who attended for their support. The school has achieved an overall attendance level of 96.3% this year which is classed as very good!

Later on in the morning Miss Rees was given a special surprise when she carried out her normal playtime duty. Everything seemed normal until suddenly her favourite singer, Cheryl Cole (as was) started to blare out of the stereo. Before she knew it a few children started dancing who were joined by members of the teaching team and then the whole of the Year One and Two playground danced a choreographed dance flashmob style! At the end of the dance the children held up a banner wishing her good luck as she prepares to get married and become Mrs Draycott over the summer.

Later, at lunchtime, the team surprised her with a Dominoes Party, her favourite takeaway snack! Mr B wished her luck on behalf of the team as they tucked into their pizzas. Whilst the teachers enjoyed their pizza the children were entertained on the playground as former pupil Emmylou came along and sang to them in the pagoda with her guitar. Emmylou writes her own songs and talked to the children all about learning the guitar and how practising is really important.

The afternoon saw Squirrels visited by Rodney the rabbit. Miss Holmes had told Mr B that the children had earned a record amount of tallies for their behaviour so our furry friend came along for a circle time play and was also visited by some Year Six children.

At the end of the school day the party atmosphere went into orbit as our Year Six children enjoyed a fantastic leavers party in the downstairs hall. Due to the scorching sun and extreme dancing not being a great mix the party took place in the cool surroundings of the breezy hall and saw the children take part in dancing competitions, enjoy snacks and ice cream and have a fantastic time!
