It has been one of the busiest days of the school year and, yet again, the school was a hive of activity.

The day started with a visit from Katie Stanton from Earls Hall Baptist Church. Katie led a fun and interactive assembly which focused on change, linked to the transition from one year to the next for the children. Thank you, as always, to Katie for leading such a fun assembly.

Later in the morning there was lots of activity in every class as the whole school took part in a site evacuation practise. The children were accompanied off the school site by staff in an orderly and unalarming fashion in order to ascertain how long it would take them to congregate in a designated place of safety should the site ever need to be evacuated. All the children were amazing and took part in the evacuation in a sensible manner, enjoying the brisk stroll in the sunshine at the same time.

Later in the day another ‘AOK Club’ mission took place; the first of two which were given to the children to take part in. A group of children from Squirrels joined Mr B to rid Carlton Avenue of litter following mess left by the weekly bin collection. The children used the special ‘AOK’ litter pickers and worked in pairs to ensure every piece of stray rubbish was binned. Mr B was delighted to present the children with their special badges at the end of the mission.

In the afternoon a group of children from Hawks took part in the second ‘AOK’ mission of the day. The children visited members of the ‘Time Together’ group who meet at Earls Hall Baptist Church each Thursday. The group enjoyed a meal of fish n chips and the children then chatted to the members before acting as waiters by serving them their ice cream desserts, teas and coffees and after dinner chocolates. The children were incredibly polite and well behaved throughout the mission and were given a round of applause by the members at the end of their time together. Mr B was proud to present the children with their special badges back at school.

At the end of the afternoon it was time for another transition meeting for parents, this time led by the lovely Mrs Cockett as she told the children all about the move from Year Three into Year Four. The parents heard about the curriculum before getting the chance to introduce themselves to the teachers in the year group over a cup of tea.

In the evening we held one of the biggest events in the school calendar as the school opened its doors for our annual ‘Open Evening’. Parents and other proud family members visited the classrooms, looked at childrens work from throughout the year and chatted to staff. The school was packed as hundreds of families came along to join in with the celebrations. Thank you to everyone who made it along to show their pride in what the children have achieved since September.
