The week at Earls Hall started with a mystery which resulted in a day of investigations for the children in KS1 and Foundation Stage.

Mr B was merrily leading an assembly on manners when a decidedly flustered Mr Geach rushed into the hall and demanded his attention! He announced that Mrs Critoph was outside in the ‘Nature Garden’, all in a tizzy, as she had discovered a huge mound of earth which had appeared from nowhere over the weekend!

Mr Geach displayed live photographs of the mound which showed the children a safety conscious Mrs Critoph taping the mound off in case it was dangerous.

Mr B was obviously shocked to the core and announced to the teachers that he had been in school over the weekend and had not seen the mound. He asked the children to discuss with talk partners what on earth they thought had happened.  The children worked together and thought of various possibilities including a giant mole visiting the school, people digging for treasure, an alien worm and an asteroid hitting the area from space!

Mr B ordered that the teachers abandoned their planned lessons and begged the children to spend time investigating the mound…with caution! Throughout the morning each class visited the mound and some even took turns to carefully dig in it to see what they found as clues. Various classes discovered items which will be revealed as the week progresses. What a mysterious day!
