It was a mysterious start to the new half term for the children in KS1 when they were the recipients of a special delivery in their morning assembly today! Mr B was merrily talking to the children about their half term break when an excited Mr Geach burst into the hall and interrupted the proceedings. Looking excited, our Assistant Head apologised for the interruption but explained that the office had just found two Royal Mail postbags had been delivered to the school. The children soon deduced that the bags were the property of Postman Shaun, a jolly postman who they have recently been undertaking special jobs for, and decided that they would carefully investigate what was inside them. Mr B and Mr Geach carefully looked inside and, to the children’s delight, found that they contained some mysterious looking maps. The children looked carefully at the maps and decided that they were of Earls Hall School. They could clearly see familiar features such as the playground and Forest Friends areas identified but also spotted an area with a big question mark on it. Mr B told the teachers that he thought it would be a good idea for the children to spend time investigating the maps back in the classroom and asked them to look for further clues.

Back in class, the children developed their map reading skills and then went outside to visit areas of the school located on the maps. At each point they found clues which were left by fairy tale characters. Each clue saw the characters leave a problem which needed someones help and so the children had to think of people who could help them. Mr Wolf needed the help of a vet whilst Cinderalla needed the help of a Police officer to help her find her stolen slipper. The little bear needed a carpenter to fix his broken chair whilst Goldilocks needed the help of a chef to assist her in making perfect porridge. Once all of the clues were found the children decided to go back to class and spend time over the next few days researching the various people who could help their favourite characters.

Whilst the younger children were busy outside map reading, the children in 6C were also outside on their bicycles. The children spent time taking part in the highest level of Bikeability training under the supervision of the team of instructors. The children began the session familiarising themselves with their bicycles and identifying important safety rules they needed to follow when riding their bikes outside. They then took time to follow a route safely, stopping and starting when instructed by the team of adults.
