The week may have been coming to an end today but that didn’t stop the day being a busy one! The morning started with Mrs Critoph being joined by a host of parents and other family members in the downstairs hall who were all eager to find out more about ways to support the learning of maths.
Mrs Critoph guided the parents from Foundation Stage through the objectives taught in the early years and gave examples of how we teach the subject at Earls Hall. After the presentation the parents joined the children in the classrooms where they worked and played together in a series of maths activities and great fun was had by all. Thank you to everyone who came along and joined in with the fun!
Meanwhile, upstairs in Kites, the children continued their investigation into how to keep a plant healthy by monitoring the plants they have been looking after in different climates. They discovered that the plants that had not been given any water or light had wilted substantially!
The mornings ‘Celebration Assemblies’ were, as always, held simultaneously at 10am and saw the whole school celebrate the achievements of the borough sports team as well as the usual awards for ‘Earls Hall stars’ and maths.
In the afternoon Mr B and Mr Hume ventured out of school with a group of children from Aspen who were chosen to take part in the latest ‘AOK Club’ mission! At the beginning of the year local residents replied to a doorstep survey about tasks the club could undertake in the community and so, responding to suggestions from the survey, today the children visited David, a Carlton Avenue resident, and gave his rockery some TLC. David is a former Earls Hall pupil himself but is now retired so appreciated the labour of the children as they weeded between the rocks and raked his lawn of leaves. Jason was in a particularly kind mood and ‘saved’ over a dozen snails from being crushed in the process of the job. David said he had really enjoyed the visit from the children and was really grateful of their hard work so Mr B was very pleased to present them with their special badges when they returned to school.
Elsewhere, far away from school at Gosfield School, our rounders team competed in the Essex finals and came a magnificent third place. The team played against Stanley Drapkin school, St Marys and RA Butlers and showed great team spirit throughout the competition. Well done to all of the team, we are proud of you!
