There was a theme of kindness across Earls Hall today as children from Years Two and Four took part in two ‘AOK Club’ missions. Mrs Smoothy and Mrs Stoneman accompanied a group of children from Foxes to Edward Bears pre-school group where the children gave their time to model play to the toddlers. They showed kindness and patience when interacting with the younger children and earned their special badges back at school. Well done children, we are proud of you!
A group of children from Aspen took part in a mission which aimed to thank all of the volunteers at the RNLI for the time that they give in order to keep people safe. Following Alan’s visit in assembly last week which gave the children an understanding of the challenges the volunteers face, the children spent time this morning making a number of chocolate cornflake cakes which they then delivered to the RNLI centre at the seafront this afternoon. At the centre the children were met by Gerry who gratefully received the cakes before giving the children, Mr B and Mrs Stoneman a tour of the boats and the equipment the team use. Gerry was full of praise for the children, commenting how their manners were excellent, and Mr B was proud to present the children with their special badges in recognition of their kindness back in school. Well done children, we are proud of you.
There was more kindness on display at lunchtime as a group of children from Year Five took it upon themselves to request that they could use the ‘AOK’ litter pickers in order to rid the field of any stray bits of litter. The children spent their playtime working as a team to collect rubbish. Well done children, what a kind gesture!
The children in Year Three had an interesting start to the day as they took part in home safety presentations in the hall given by Steve from the Basildon Fire and Rescue Service. The children were taught about the possible dangers that are in the home and ways to ensure that they stay safe from such hazards. Thank you to Steve for giving us your time.
In the afternoon, whilst the children in Year One enjoyed a continuous provision session where they took the opportunity to write, construct and use the beebots, the upstairs hall was turned into a rock stadium as the bands from the ‘Rock Steady’ workshops took to the stage in order to entertain crowds on two occasions. First of all they played for the rest of the children in KS2 and then they entertained proud parents and other family members. The workshops give the children the opportunity to learn to play the bass, the electric guitar, keyboard, drums and vocals in a band setting under the skillful guidance of musician Phil. It was a rocking concert! Well done to all of the musicians, we are proud of you!
The day also saw Mr B thrilled by a group of readers from Badgers in his office. Well done children, you persevered and read beautifully as a result! At the end of the afternoon, after school, our ‘Reptile Club’ saw the children get up close and personal with bearded dragons and a panther chameleon who amazed the children as it demonstrated how it used its extendable tongue to catch its dinner!
