The last week of the term began with a series of celebrations today! The morning started with a special assembly for the children in the Foundation Stage and KS1 where we celebrated both musical and reading achievements all in one go!

At the start of the assembly Mrs Critoph and her recorder club performed a series of tunes for proud parents and other family members. The performance showed just how much progress the children had made at the club as they played some basic pieces before moving on to playing ‘Mary had a Little lamb’ beautifully. Everyone in the audience were very impressed. Well done to all of the performers, we are very proud of you.

Our KS2 assembly focused on preparing for changes. As a proud ‘Whovian’, Mr B shared some of the reactions to the announcement that the next Doctor is due to change and be played by a woman for the first time. The children thought about why people are sometimes wary of change but how any anxieties can be turned into excitement. The children thought about the various changes they will be experiencing soon, whether that might be changing class or in the case of Year six changing school, and all of the excitement that these changes can create.

Later in the assembly it was the final chance in the academic year to celebrate our latest ‘Reading Champions’. Mr B was assisted by the teaching assistants to present the children with their special badges in recognition of their reading efforts at home which once again included some children being presented with medals and crowned ‘Ultimate Reading Champions’. Well done to all of the children, we are proud of you all.

Later, in the afternoon, the downstairs hall played host to a special tea party as parents, grandparents and neighbours of the school were treated to a cream tea as a way of saying thank you for their time helping throughout the year. Adults who have been reading helpers, swimming helpers, PTA supporters or trip helpers were among those in attendance and each were presented with a special thank you card by children from each class throughout the afternoon. Thank you to everyone who has given their time in any way throughout the year, we are eternally grateful for your support.

At the end of the school day the field was the place to be as the children in  Year Six enjoyed a leavers party outside. Micky B once again provided the disco and the children took part in dance competitions, games and even a giant Mexican wave! A great time was had by all!
