It was a truly fantastic day at Earls Hall today as the whole school took part in an inspirational art day! Each class studied the work of a particular artist who then inspired them to create their own work based on their style.
The children in Year Six investigated the work of Jackson Pollock, creating group and individual pieces, whilst the children in Year Four studied Claude Monet and created their own sketches and a large piece based on his water lilies.
The children in Year Three focused on pop art and the work of Andy Warhol, creating some fantastic portraits in his style as well as some large collaborative soup cans. The children in Year Two investigated Picasso and created a gallery of portraits based on his style whilst the children in Year One studied Van Gogh and created a range of sunflowers as individuals.
In Year Five the children learnt about the Chinese artist Liu Hai Su and were inspired by his piece ‘Sprays of Flowers’ whilst the children in the Foundation Stage investigated Kandinsky and focused their art on circles.
The children in each year group learnt about each artist’s life and style, tried new techniques and worked collaboratively and as individuals. At the end of the afternoon each and every class visited every other class in order to take part in an amazing gallery experience – sharing and appreciating each others’ efforts. It was a wonderful day which all of the children enjoyed.
Meanwhile, the children in Year One were visited by Koda the therapy dog and took turns to read to him. There was more reading pride as Mr B listened to children read from Dormice and Hedgehogs. Well done children, Mr B was very impressed!
After school a team of boys from Year Five and Six played Heycroft primary at football on the field. the team represented the school well but lost 3-2. Well done boys, we are proud of you. There was more excitement after school at ‘Reptile Club’ as the children got up close and personal with a range of animals including a large tegu and a giant Burmese python!
