It was a busy day for the children in Year Three today as they welcomed proud parents and other family members into school in order to share their fabulous Harvest assemblies. The children from Hawks, Kites and Kestrels all took turns throughout the day to share the learning which has taken place in class and outside over the course of the first half term of the year and also shared some songs and other learning opportunities which were centred around harvest. The children all performed in the assemblies beautifully. Thank you to all of the grown ups who came along to join in with the fun.

Meanwhile, as the children in Oak continued sewing their underwater felt creatures, the children in Robins showed an interest in x-rays which resulted in a hive of activity in class. They discussed what a skeleton actually is and why we have them before feeling different bones in their bodies and learning the names of some of them. Miss Cracknell showed the children some photos of x-rays and the children guessed what body part it was. Afterwards the children made an x-ray room in the classroom. They made beds and wrote a sign for the entrance. Some children became radiologists asking patients “what hurts” and x-raying that body part. Afterwards  they studied the x-ray image and decided whether it was broken or not. If the bone was broken then the doctors made casts and bandages out of fabrics.

Outside, the children in Owls used their Forest Friends session to create their own portraits based on the style of the artist Giuseppe Archimboldo. They arranged natural objects to portray faces with some unique and stunning results!
