The children absolutely love it when they are visited by special guests so it was lovely to see two governors come into school today. Mrs Eshmade spent the whole day in school meeting with staff to discuss progress against key areas of this years school improvement plan, but the highlight of her day was when she was joined by fellow governor Mrs Miller for a guided tour of the school. Four pupils from Year Five took the governors around the whole school, explaining the learning taking place at each point. They shared the work displayed on the walls and explained the lessons which they were the result of. Both governors were full of praise for the children and the professional and mature way they talked about the school with such pride throughout the tour.

Miss Ellacott had an exciting morning as she spent some quality time taking part in Foundation Stage activities in Dormice. She threw herself into the experience by taking part in a wide range of activities and discussing the philosophy behind them with Miss Toms.

In the afternoon the downstairs hall was full of activity as the children in Foxes composed their own dances in pairs. Mr Geach identified sets of children who had created a sequence of moves and each in turn modelled them to the rest of the class.

In Kestrels the children continued their stone theme by identifying different layers of soil. They were challenged to draw detailed diagrams, complete with labels, and explain in sentences the difference between each layer.

This afternoon it was the turn of 6B to create their own short animated movies. The children used a stop animation programme on the laptops to create the films which turned out to be fantastic!

In Aspen the children investigated the work of the artist Lowry and discussed how his paintings represented movement. They sketched the figures from some of his famous works of art to recreate them in a similar style.

Meanwhile, in the upstairs hall, Mrs Richardson hosted the first of two sessions this week for parents of children in Year Four. The presentation focused on the up and coming residential trip to Wat Tyler and gave the parents an insight into the types of activities the children will enjoy whilst there.
