Today started with a sense of celebration as the children in KS2 were joined in assembly by Kairen from the NSPCC. Kairen popped into school to thank the children for their brilliant fundraising efforts where, through their physical sponsored activities, they had raised over £2,000 for the charity. Kairen reminded the children of how to let a trusted adult know if they ever felt vulnerable or unsafe and of the Childline phone number.

Later in the assembly, Mr B talked to the children about the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh’s seventieth wedding anniversary. The children looked at the Queen’s wedding photos and key moments of her marriage to the Duke and discussed the qualities needed to sustain a relationship for such a long period of time.

In the afternoon the children in the Foundation Stage took part in their daily ‘Numbertime’ session. Today there were children counting one more and one less using shells and counting up to ten using stones and pasta as well as children identifying the properties of shapes.

Later on, on the roads around the school, 6J took to their bicycles as they took part in their latest session of Bikeability with the team. The children took turns to safely ride around the roads, signalling when needed in order to let other road users know their intention to change direction.

The children in 6J were passed on their travels by a group of children from Sycamore and Elm on their way to take part in our latest ‘AOK Club’ mission. The ‘Act of Kindness’ today saw the children visit Fairview Residential Home where they spent time chatting to the residents for lengthy periods of time. They read passages from their favourite books, played cards and dominoes and spent time colouring alongside the residents. The children’s behaviour was excellent throughout with them showing great levels of respect to everyone who they came into contact with. This year one of the targets of the club is to increase the children’s understanding of dementia so Mr B had a chat with the group before and after the visit to help the children understand the condition. Mr B was incredibly proud to present the children with their badges at the end of the session back in school!
