It was a fun day outside for the children in Aspen today as they enjoyed a damp, but active, Forest Friends session in the woods! The children worked in groups in order to create large scale dens using the trees and tarpaulin, all with the aim to shelter themselves adequately from the drizzle. Working as a team, the children used rope to tie a series of tricky knots in order to secure their covers and by the end of the session the whole Forest Friends area was adorned with a series of fantastic shelters! Also in the session, the children developed their fire lighting skills by creating small but controlled flames in fire steels.

In the morning, the children across the school tuned into the live stream of the visit of HRH Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall declaring Southend as a City. Having seen some of the coverage, the children took part in a discussion about what the event meant for Southend.

Later in the day, as the children in Squirrels took part in an energetic PE session in the hall with Mr Gordon, the children in Oak developed their tag rugby skills as Mr Crooks led a game of cat and mouse on the playground.

At the end of the afternoon, the children in the Foundation Stage and Year One enjoyed taking part in a series of creative play activities before more children enjoyed making some surprise Mothers Day gifts in the Clay Cottage club.
