It was a busy morning today as we were visited by Principal of Greensward Academy, Mrs Scarnell. Keen to find out more about how we approach teaching and learning at Earls Hall, Mrs Scarnell spent time touring the school with Mr B and chatted to some of our pupils about their lessons. It was lovey to spend time with the Headteacher of lots of our former pupils and find out how they are getting on in the secondary stage of their education. Thanks so much Mrs Scarnell for giving us your time.

Meanwhile, there was lots of learning through food today! The children in Year Six were making Syrian or Cuban styled dishes in class.  Having investigated the journeys of refugees from the countries to the UK, the children worked in groups to follow recipes to make the Syrian style dip- red pepper hummus or a Cuban styled dip called Mojo. They also made flatbreads and were able to add a flavouring of their choice.

Down in Kestrels, the children were learning about the layers of the Earth. The children began with the centre first of the Earth first, then worked outwards using different foods to represent the layers. The Inner Core/Outer Core and Mantle were created using strawberry sauce whilst chocolate buttons were broken up to represent the solid bedrock and placed on top of the sauce. Chocolate mouse was the sub soil or clay layer which was placed on top whilst bourbon biscuits made up the top soil which was placed on top of the sub soil. Finally the children  added digestive biscuit for the top soil. After labelling the layers in their books – the children took their concoction home to enjoy at home.

Down in Robins, one of the children told the class all about his trip to Disneyland. The children decided to turn the classroom into Disneyland. They each chose a character and made their own costumes using paper, fabric and paper plates. We had Minnie Mouse, Elsa, Anna, Batman and Rapunzel!

There was a strong governor presence in school today. The morning saw Mrs Woof meet with Mr B to discuss how our approach to learning supports children who are in foster care whilst the afternoon saw Mrs Anderson come to discuss pupil voice in school. Mrs Anderson met with some of our new Science Ambassadors to discuss the democratic process they experienced to gain the role before she joined our Reading Ambassadors for their first meeting.
