It was a brilliant day for Earls Hall sport today as two teams of children represented the school at this years boccia and new aged kurling competitions. The city wide tournaments saw the children from across KS2 compete against teams from other schools with each and every competitor giving the competition their all. The day began with the boccia tournament. Boccia is played from a seated position, players propel balls to land as close as possible to a white marker ball, known as the Jack. Two sides compete as individuals, pairs or as a team of three over a set number of ends. Our team played brilliantly and finished in first place making them the Southend champions and putting them through to the Essex finals!

In the afternoon our children competed in the new aged kurling competition. New age kurling is similar to bowls, but is traditionally played inside and uses a static target rather than a moving ball. Once again our children worked well as a team, finishing in the super ten and narrowly missing out on the semi finals. All in all it was a fantastic day of results! Well done children, we are proud of you!

Meanwhile, as groups of children from Squirrels, Hedgehogs and Kites helped Miss Kelly to care for the animals, the children in Year Five experienced a bit of a disastrous day. Venturing out of school for a planned theatre trip to see ‘The Witches’, the children became gridlocked in traffic on the A13 and, despite the drivers best efforts, eventually had to admit defeat and, having realised they were never going to make the show, had to turn around and return to school. It was testament to our children that throughout the whole ordeal they remained in good spirits despite obviously being disappointed! Well done children, we are proud of you!
