It was an exciting day for a group of children in Aspen today as they were chosen to be the latest pupils to take part in our ‘AOK (Acts of Kindness) Club! Accompanied by Mr B and Mrs Simpson, the children ventured out of school to the Hockley Ferret Rescue Centre where they helped look after some of the two hundred ferrets that are boarding there! At the centre they met Jo and Tracey who look after the abandoned, neglected or lost ferrets and provide them with a warm home, medical treatment and tender loving care. The children were taught all about ferrets and how they behave before helping Jo and Tracey change their water and clip their claws. With ferrets everywhere as far as the eye could see it was a lively afternoon and we were proud to present the children with their special badges at the end of the session. Thank you to Jo and Tracey for giving us your valuable time! Well done children, we are proud of you.
There was more fun off site today as the whole of Year Five also ventured out of school in order to spend the day at King Edmunds Secondary School. At KES, the children worked in teams to solve over twenty clues in an Escape Room style task. They then got creative and made a KES crown. Ten children were selected to receive special recognition for demonstrating the KES qualities (proud, aspirational, kind, inclusive, supportive). Thanks to all at KES for arranging such a fun secondary experience for our children.
As the children in Owls acted as art critics by reflecting and reviewing their recent leaf art, the children in 6CW maths class spent time in the computer suite consolidating their skills. Some children were working on their angles knowledge whilst others were developing their understanding of fractions.
Throughout the day we celebrated individual achievement and effort in our Celebration Assemblies as we presented children with badges for times tables and reading whilst also rewarding children from each class with ‘Earls Hall Stars’ certificates. At the end of the afternoon this weeks ‘Learning Ambassadors’ met with one of our governors, Mrs Woof, to discuss the learning which has taken place across the school since Monday. Well done children, we are proud of you!
At the end of the day some of our Year Six girls hosted a cake sale which they had arranged to raise funds for our OPAL lunchtime provision. Acting on their own initiative, the girls baked hundreds of cakes which they then sold to supportive families and raised an amazing £200 in the process. Fantastic girls, thank you!
