The children loved crossing over the pedestrian bridge accompanied by a host of staff from school as well as lots of parent helpers. Once at the store the children met Bobbi (Tesco education leader) and she spoke about the what they would be doing throughout the morning.

First half the class went to the bakery and the other half to the fishmonger. Then the groups swapped to ensure everyone experienced the same activities. In the bakery the children heard all about dough and saw the ovens for baking the bread, they were huge! With the fish monger the class spoke about different kinds of fish and then she showed them how to prepare a fish and even cut it up in front of us. The children were very excited to see the fish skeleton.

Once back in the training room there were opportunities for food tasting and discussing the colours of different fruit and vegetables. After that the class went to the fridge and freezers behind the store. The children loved the freezer as it was very cold!

Finally the children went around the store in groups to look for different coloured foods, to report back to the class. They then used cards with pictures of fruit and veg.  Bobbi  used them to spell out the word healthy and they discussed healthy foods.

Meanwhile, back in school, the children in Hawks used the laptops to create databases on the excel programme whilst Kites transferred images of themselves into new backgrounds by deleting the original backgrounds on the netpaint programme. The children in Elm used famous landmarks as an inspiration to create sketches of them using HB pencils whilst the artistic theme continued in Sycamore where the children painted a series of animals and birds found in the Rainforest.

Year Six continued their investigations into Tudor times when Mr Hassell came to talk to them about her collection of instruments used at the time dressed in authentic costume.
