What a busy start to the week!

The morning started with the children who will be joining our September Foundation Stage classes visiting the school with their parents. the children came along to the classrooms in two sessions. They enjoyed taking part in a range of play activities, dressed up and heard a story whilst their parents went and got to know each other a little better over a cup of tea down in the community room.

Meanwhile a group of enthusiastic girls from Year 4 visited Westcliff High School for Girls for the morning to experience high school life.  They were met by Year 7 students who spent time sharing their experiences of school and taking the girls on a tour. They also took part in sample lessons to meet some of the staff to gain further insight to life in a grammar school. Our Year 4 girls did themselves and the school proud.

Over in Year One the children took part in some smashing maths investigations. They built robots from various body parts and measured them in centimetres. Once they had measured each part they were challenged to build the tallest robot possible. There was also some tricky calculations being worked out using Numicon to assist them.

There were plenty of laptops on display upstairs. The children in 6B used them to research the river Thames whilst Hawks created their own photo stories on them.

At the end of the afternoon both halls were the setting for two parent assemblies. Downstairs the children and guests congratulated children who were being presented with their latest ‘Reading Champions’ badges and medals whilst upstairs Mrs Creak and Miss Ellacott gave a presentation on the final arrangements for the up and coming Year Six residential trip to Stratford Upon Avon.

The big news of the day was the fact that Earls Hall were crowned Essex champions again! Our Year Six rounders team travelled to Gosfield School in Halstead where they played five exciting games. They beat Great Wakering 9-1 &1/2, Oakfield 9-1, St Michaels 7-3, RS Butler 5 &1/2- 3&1/2 and finally Bournes Green 4&1/2-3. As a result of their fantastic performance they were crowned Essex champions and have been put through to the national finals being held in Stafford next week! Well done to the whole team and to Mr Smith whose coaching skills have yet again come up trumps!
