Our final day of the Spring term was certainly a jam packed one! The morning started with the children in the Foundation Stage classes being joined by a throng of parents and other family members as they joined the classes to take part in a host of Easter activities. The children made chocolate nests, created their own hats and bonnets, decorated eggs and told Spring stories in the builders tray. It was lovely to see so many grown ups join in the fun, thank you to everyone who came along.
Later in the morning there was a sense of anticipation in both halls as the children took part in the weekly ‘Celebration Assemblies’. The usual awards were presented as always but today the children were eager to find out which house had earned the most house points in recognition of good behaviour, the reward being an extra playtime for all the children in that particular house. After an ‘X Factor’ style silence, the winning house was announced as Arundel! There was a massive cheer before the children enjoyed an additional fifteen minutes playtime in recognition of their behaviour and team work. Well done Arundel!
As the day progressed the children in Badgers developed their woodwork skills as they made signs for their plant pots whilst in Squirrels the children painted their clay eggs with bright colours. In the upstairs hall the children in Oaks took part in a PE lesson where, as part of the warm up, they challenged themselves to beat their previous record of planking for thirty seconds by holding the pose for a full minute, quite a task! In Kestrels the children performed their finished dance routine which they had choreographed to the backing track of Michael Jacksons ’Earth Song’. The routine highlighted various environmental themes and was watched by a very impressed Mrs Russell from the office. Later the children watched a video of their performance and shared it with a very proud Mr B.
As the term ended the children said a fond farewell to two much loved members of the team. Mr Smith Junior is leaving us to become an electrician and will be sadly missed by both adults and children alike whilst at lunchtime the children presented some flowers to the lovely Mrs Paul who is leaving as a Midday assistant after fifteen years of service. We hope both Mr Smith and Mrs Paul will still be familiar faces at Earls Hall and wish them all the best for the future. Thank you for all of your hard work.
In the afternoon there was much excitement across all of the classes as the children warmly greeted the arrival of the Easter Bunny! Our fluffy tailed friend had previously emailed Mr B in the morning to say that he would squeeze in a visit in his schedule to see all of the children who behaved beautifully and so, this afternoon, he bounced into school and gave eggs to each and every class. He particularly loved the various hats the children in the Foundation Stage had made in preparation of his visit. He was a tad hot and exhausted by the end of his visit but loved seeing all of the children’s smiling faces!
