Early Animation & Animal Inspirations!

It was animaltastic middle of the week for the children in Rabbits today as they used our furry and feathered friends as inspiration for their independent writing. Mr Cann and Miss Marshall enjoyed leading the children around the school where they visited all of our animals. As they spent time with each group in turn, they discussed which adjectives they might use to describe their appearance or behaviour and then used them in oral sentences as a starting point for their writing. The goats were on fine form and Mabel the dog was more than happy to lap up all of the attention she received from the children whilst the chickens and ducks inspired the children to form some adventurous use of words. We are really looking forward to seeing the children put their ideas down in written sentences in the coming days.

Meanwhile, as a group of children from Squirrels learnt all about how to look after George the tortoise with Miss Kelly and the children in Oak learnt about the Hindu Puja tray, the children in Badgers used their Forest Friends session to classify varieties of plants through leaf identification.

In the afternoon the children in 6CW learnt about the artist Lottie Reiniger who was an artist responsible for shadow puppets and some of the earliest animations. After studying her life they made visual notes about her and her art work.
