It was a busy day for the children in Year One today as they learnt all about Chinese New Year! The children were told the zodiac story and identified which animal they were, along with the animals of their teachers, before being shown how to create their own Chinese lanterns. As the day unfolded, many of the children chose to go to the creative areas of their classrooms and make their own lanterns independently whilst others decided to make their own masks of either Chinese dragons or many of the zodiac animals. Whilst there was also time to investigate the outdoor area, each classroom was a hive of activity!

Meanwhile, the children in the Foundation Stage classes also heard all about Chinese New Year celebrations but also spent time enjoying a fun numbertime session. Some children investigated bonds to ten and above whilst others played number games.

As a group of children from 6M worked with Miss Kelly and the animals, in Year Five, the children took part in a science lesson where they investigated which shapes were more streamlined and therefore more water resistant.

As the children in Owls worked with the team from Southend United out on the playground, the community room played host to another session of ‘Rock Steady Workshop’ where the children rocked out on various instruments.
