It was an exciting day in the world of Earls Hall chess today as the grand final of this years school championship took place at lunchtime. Up in Beech, Miss Fitzgerald oversaw the proceedings as two games took place, one to decide who took third and fourth place and one to see who would take second or be crowned champion! Mr B was lucky enough to be invited along to watch the games which were tense at times but played with real sportsmanship. At the end of the games Jacob one the runners up game against Arthur whilst Elliott, who as a Year Two pupil was the youngest player in the tournament, took second place and Aiden was awarded champion. Having started the tournament with over fifty children taking part the games today were a testament to the skill that the players have developed. Well done to all who played in the final and congratulations to Aiden for winning the title. We are proud of you all!

Meanwhile, as the children in Year Two used pastels and acrylic paint in order to create some stunning leaf pictures, the classes from Year One took turns to use the hall in order to create some large scale spiral pictures.

Down in the Foundation Stage, the children from Hedgehogs enjoyed a busy day. Some of the children have recently expressed an interest in fairies, pixies and other fantasy creatures and today some of them used the creative area in order to make little homes for them. Inspired by a range of pictures of houses that were sourced from the internet, the children used paper, card and recyclable coffee cups to make their homes. They cut out doors and stuck on details such as windows in order to create some really cute dwellings! Meanwhile, outside in the Early Years Garden, the children enjoyed using their new climbing equipment, wooden blocks and tyre balancing beams in order to create their own obstacle courses. They enjoyed declaring that the floor was lava whilst challenging each other to get across the course safely.
