BOUNCING & BUBBLES!

It has been an incredibly exciting day at school! It started with the children in Hedgehogs venturing out as the latest Foundation Stage class to visit Tescos. At the store the children met Bobbi who gave them challenges to find certain foods in the aisles, taught them all about dough and how it is turned into bread, explained how the fishmonger prepares the fish and identified healthy foods. The children were accompanied by a host of parents, thank you for your time.

Back at school, the children in Year Two used our grounds to follow a number sentence challenge. the children had to work in pairs and groups to calculate number sentences around the school with each answer resulting in a letter. the letters gave them clues as to where to find the next challenge. At the same time the children in Kestrels were also outside developing their orienteering skills by following a treasure hunt on the playground and field.

Today also saw the children in Year Three take part in a fantastic ‘Forest Friends’ session with Mrs Mellish and Miss Chandler. The children undertook some amazing activities including using willow to create a vacuum, resulting in the creation of the biggest bubbles they had ever seen!!

On the field Beech took part in a thrilling dodgeball session whilst back inside the children in Squirrels used story mountains as a plan for their independent writing of  complex stories. Rodney the rabbit was in school today and was visited by a group of children from Oaks and Badgers who had been identified as being consistently well behaved. They changed his food and water and played with him in the ‘Riverside Room’.

Throughout the day the children in Foundation stage and KS1 took part in the PTA ‘Sponsored Bounce’ on the field. Each child was challenged to bounce as many times as they could in the space of a minute with their bounces being counted by a group of eagle eyed volunteers. Thanks to all the helpers for their time and to Mrs Anderson for organising the day. There was a competitive element between the staff with Mr Geach being crowned champion adult bouncer with an impressive 118 bounces!

At Thorpe Hall children from Year Four and Five took part in the Southend inter-schools rounders tournament. After an exciting tournament Earls Hall were awarded first in the Year Five competition meaning we are Southend champions! Thank you to all the family members who came along to support the teams.

What a jam packed day!!
