The children recognised the importance of ‘Anti Bullying Week’ today by attending two special assemblies which aimed at informing children of what to do if they saw bullying taking place in school, either involving themselves or somebody else.

In both KS1 and KS2 Mr B clarified what constituted bullying as opposed to a one of negative choice. The children discussed how a bully is aware of the impact they are having on someone elses happiness over a sustained period of time and then looked at some examples of bullying, both physical and emotional bullying.

The children thought about how the various children may be feeling in different scenarios and what barriers may make the victim feel uncomfortable about reporting what is taking place. The children thought of ways the victim could ask for help without needing to worry about escalating the problem but also what they could do if they witnessed bullying taking place to someone else.

In the KS2 assembly Mr B highlighted the growing problem of cyber bullying and the various forms this may take.

The children, in both assemblies, all agreed that it would be a great idea to sign an ‘anti bullying charter’ where upon they would sign their name to agree to, not only never be a bully, but also to highlight and tell an adult if they were ever concerned that someone else was being bullied.

The assembly was the start of a series of lessons and activities taking place throughout the week. Some classes continued to investigate the theme later on in their PSHE lessons today.

Later in the morning the children in KS2 continued to be ambassadors for Mr B’s X Factor bid by arranging a world tour for him. They began to investigate different continents he may visit if his career was successful and agreed to make sure they researched as much as possible about them in order to prepare him for his hypothetical tour.

In the afternoon the children in Elm class began to investigate how much sugar is in a series of drinks as they continued to learn about how to keep teeth healthy. They set up an experiment to monitor the evaporation of drinks and measure how much sugar residue is left in each one.

In Beech class the children used the Excel programme on the laptops to complete a multiplication table whilst in Sycamore the children developed their understanding of French by taking part in basic conversations using the language.

After school the downstairs hall was used once again as the base for our KS2 ‘Drama Club’. The children played various circle games where they expressed emotions and developed their speaking and listening skills.
